What this site is for

VisaTrack is a Portugal residency timeline guide that shows every stage from first visa to citizenship on one dated line. It exists because the 2026 nationality law changed the numbers, and most people planning a long-term move now need to think in decades, not years.

The site has one page of guidance and one tool: a timeline calculator that turns your route and dates into a transit-map view of permits, permanent residence, citizenship and your IFICI tax deadline.

Who it helps

People planning to live in Portugal for the long term: D7, D8, D2 and highly qualified visa holders, Golden Visa investors, and EU citizens who want to know when permanent residence and citizenship become possible.

Editorial approach

We lead with dates and numbers, then explain what they mean. We include the downsides, such as AIMA backlogs and the longer citizenship path, because a timeline that hides risk is not useful.

Where the calculator needs a figure the law does not fix, such as how long AIMA takes, we label it as an assumption and let you change it.

How facts are checked and dated

We check rules against primary sources first: Portuguese legislation, AIMA, the visa portal and Portal das Finanças. Where we rely on a law firm or specialist summary, we name it in the Sources section of the page.

Every page shows the date it was last reviewed. If we cannot verify a number, we leave it out.

Some pages link to specialist services we have a commercial relationship with. We only link where we think the service genuinely helps.
